Leader in Me Binders
05 November 2019
"These journals provide the year 10s with a memory book detailing every fantastic experience they’ve had at Mercy. It is also a tool that helps develop the Mercy values and leadership." Noah Taylor - Year 10.
“For the 3 years that we have been doing the Leader In Me binders I have enjoyed writing all my thoughts, dreams and achievements. I think introducing the binders to Mercy was a great idea as it’s something we can look over and think about our time at Mercy. For the younger grades it shows them what leadership is and how to show leadership.” Leandra Jean - Year 10.

On Monday 11 November the Cultural Department had their annual Christmas Dinner and Farewell for Year 10 students. It was the perfect opportunity to give students their Gold, Silver and Bronze Cultural Awards and celebrate the successful year we have had as a department!
Money Challenge
18 October 2019
Planning a career path, weekly budgeting, choosing a credit card, investing in superannuation…adulting is a tough gig! Lucky we’ve got your back.
This year we had over 80 students participate in the Suncorp ESSI Money Challenge; an interactive, online financial literacy game. The Challenge is based on a ‘virtual reality’ where students experience and develop an understanding of how decisions can have impacts on their financial situation. The game encourages students to practice real life financial transactions in a safe and challenging way, exploring concepts in the areas of Earning, Saving, Spending and Investing.
See what they had to say about the game…
“The game has taught me to work your way up in jobs. If you need experience for a job, do it as soon as possible so you can get that better earning job.”
“A lesson I learnt from the Challenge is to always be careful of scammers!”

We are very proud of the hard work and dedication that each ensemble has displayed over the year, leading up to this important event on the Cultural Calendar. Congratulations to our ensemble tutors: Mrs Chelsea Jansen, Mrs Carmen Bennett, Mr Tim McClelland and Mr Samuel Bauer for their tireless efforts.

23 March 2019Great Barrier Reef Threats
22 March 2019
Last Wednesday at Justice@Mercy, we had a special guest, Kate Finch from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. She discussed major threats to the reef and ways we can all help. The major threats to the reef are marine debris (rubbish), climate change, impacts from coastal development and water quality. Something she said that personally surprised me, was that allowing grass clippings to wash down storm water drains adds unnatural nutrients to the water, allowing the Crown of Thorns Starfish to over populate. It is important to watch what goes down our storm water drains, as pollutants such as car wash, fertiliser, garden waste and obviously rubbish pose a massive threat to our precious reef. We can all play a part in protecting this beautiful gift of creation.
