Leader in Me Binders
05 November 2019
"These journals provide the year 10s with a memory book detailing every fantastic experience they’ve had at Mercy. It is also a tool that helps develop the Mercy values and leadership." Noah Taylor - Year 10.
“For the 3 years that we have been doing the Leader In Me binders I have enjoyed writing all my thoughts, dreams and achievements. I think introducing the binders to Mercy was a great idea as it’s something we can look over and think about our time at Mercy. For the younger grades it shows them what leadership is and how to show leadership.” Leandra Jean - Year 10.

On Monday 11 November the Cultural Department had their annual Christmas Dinner and Farewell for Year 10 students. It was the perfect opportunity to give students their Gold, Silver and Bronze Cultural Awards and celebrate the successful year we have had as a department!
Money Challenge
18 October 2019
Planning a career path, weekly budgeting, choosing a credit card, investing in superannuation…adulting is a tough gig! Lucky we’ve got your back.
This year we had over 80 students participate in the Suncorp ESSI Money Challenge; an interactive, online financial literacy game. The Challenge is based on a ‘virtual reality’ where students experience and develop an understanding of how decisions can have impacts on their financial situation. The game encourages students to practice real life financial transactions in a safe and challenging way, exploring concepts in the areas of Earning, Saving, Spending and Investing.
See what they had to say about the game…
“The game has taught me to work your way up in jobs. If you need experience for a job, do it as soon as possible so you can get that better earning job.”
“A lesson I learnt from the Challenge is to always be careful of scammers!”
Eisteddfod
16 October 2019
On Tuesday 15 October the Mercy College Ensembles competed at the annual Mackay Eisteddfod. It was a tough competition with all of the local schools presenting some incredible ensemble work. We are very proud of the hard work and dedication that each ensemble has displayed over the year, leading up to this important event on the Cultural Calendar. Congratulations to our ensemble tutors: Mrs Chelsea Jansen, Mrs Carmen Bennett, Mr Tim McClelland and Mr Samuel Bauer for their tireless efforts.

21 May 2018
On Friday, 13 students boarded a coach and drove to Rockhampton to participate in a Youth Pilgrimage. Students from Bundaberg to Mackay gathered to help celebrate the ‘Year of the Youth’ and to further explore their faith.
On the Friday night, students enjoyed a concert led by Jesse Manibusan, a Catholic musician from California. The concert involved other musicians, mimes and comedians, and was great fun for all involved. On Saturday, they participated in storytelling, social justice sessions, lots of games and of course: more music! They also took part in a mass at St Joseph’s Cathedral and even assisted by volunteering to take on some extra roles during the service.
